Contingencies on the Moral Ethics of Qu’ran

Moral morals or good way of thinking includes the systemization, protection and suggestion of the ideas of good and bad conduct. Right now, we characterize ethical quality inside the strict books and its directs. The standardizing idea of what is good and bad is strictly decided; in other words that the ethical decrees we follow or design is subject to what the strict books, similar to the Bible [for the Christians] and Qu’ran [for the Moslem] force on its’ adherents. Take for example, the suras of Mohammad in Al-Isra’ [ The Night Journey of the Children of Israel] , a Moslem supporter of Allah, characterizes the ideals and obligations of a dependable Moslem. Hereto we research the ethical proclamations of Sura 17 of Qu’ran and good ramifications on the contemporary society just as a few other significant issues like the Sura politicization and ebb and flow social pertinence. Mohammad’s Sura 17Al Isra’ named The Night Journey of the Children of Israel is ambiguous to the Abraham’s Ten Commandments in the Christians Holy Bible. As individuals, we are separated from the remainder of the set of all animals by our capacity to ‘reason’ and to play by the arrangement of rules and commitments as individuals from the all encompassing society. The inconvenience of ‘rules’, ‘regulations’, and ‘duties’ are unpredictable however the establishment is essentially the sameâ€they seem required regardless of the outcomes that may follow. One significant precept of obligation hypotheses is obligation/commitment to God/Allah and apparently, any religion so far as that is concerned, would require or insinuate the act of internal and outward love to God. For Moslems, such practice is flawlessly illustrated in the ‘commandments’ forced by Allah through the works of His supporter Mohammad in Sura 17 of the Qu’ran. The statutes of Moslem good obligation are fundamentally the equivalent with that of the Christian, ‘Do not kill’, ‘Honoring parents’, ‘Do not lie’, ‘Avoid adultery’, ‘Do not pine for, and ‘observing Sabbath’. Since such good obligations were characterized a great many years prior, they would normally lose the trademark flexibility particularly whenever corresponded to the current requests of the evolving society. The dispute is that with the ascent of innovation and the current pattern of globalization, moral obligation is presently addressed with the idea of Darwinian adjustment. Taking a gander at it along these lines, Moslem good obligation would need to amend the well established shrewdness to reply to the requests of the cultural development. Would Allah’s charges be get the job done to take care of the ethical need of the individuals? Obviously, Allah puts accentuation on by all appearances obligations depicted in Qu’ran Sura 17. In reality such obligations lay clash on our day by day life. Destitution is a pox of the general public and one of the serious issues associated to it is overpopulation. To battle this, the [most] government endorsed or sanctioned ‘abortion’ to control expanding populace. Normally, premature birth is an enormous no-no to Moslem obligation and this was unequivocally characterized in Sura 17: YUSUFALI: Kill not your kids inspired by a paranoid fear of need: We will give food to them just as for you. Verily the slaughtering of them is an incredible sin. PICKTHAL: Slay not your kids, dreading a tumble to neediness, We will accommodate them and for you. Lo! the killing of them is incredible sin. SHAKIR: And don't murder your youngsters inspired by a paranoid fear of destitution; We give them food and yourselves (as well); without a doubt to execute them is an incredible wrong (v 32). The thought is ridiculous thinking about that bringing up kids is a duty which involves money related food and not simply from theoretical arrangement from Allah. While it genuine that premature birth is an irregular technique for populace control from the strict view, it can't be challenged that it is a ‘legal’ directly in generally Western and Westernized nations the same. Furthermore, the stanza is likewise in contra with the ladies strengthening to their right side to decide to convey life voluntarily. In this there is an inquiry on singular good conviction; it might be said, fetus removal isn't strictly directly by the reason of Allah’s Sura which is conversely with the current patterns on maintaining ladies strengthening and the balancing out power of the legislature raised constitution. Maybe the most discussed issue on Allah’s orders is the section concerning murder and the equity framework underscored by it: .YUSUFALI: Nor take life †which Allah has made holy †with the exception of noble motivation. Also, on the off chance that anybody is killed unjustly, we have given his beneficiary power (to request qisas or to excuse): however let him not surpass limits in the matter of taking life; for he is helped (by the Law). PICKTHAL: And kill not the existence which Allah hath prohibited spare with right. Whoso is killed unfairly, We have given force unto his beneficiary, however let him not submit overabundance in killing. Lo! he will be made a difference. SHAKIR: And don't murder any one whom Allah has prohibited, aside from a worthwhile motivation, and whoever is killed treacherously, We have undoubtedly given to his beneficiary position, so let him not surpass as far as possible in killing; most likely he is supported (V. 3). While the facts demonstrate that murder is prohibited in Islam, there likewise comprise an only pay for the person in question and the implication of Allah as the Supreme Being, Him being a reason to bite the dust for. Compensatory harms continue by a practica lly remarkable way; Sharia law of qisas (counter) directs a practically undemocratic treatment of the homicide casualties with one-sided favors for the Islams and just 50% of blood cash took into consideration the non-Islams. Such arrangement of pay is far-get from the now-supported authoritative framework which doesn't go down court choices on compensatory harms relying upon the sort of religion. The idea of Supremist religion of the Islamic people group is affected by the way that Qu’ran and any Islamic writings (if not annulled) states the transcendence and the due love that must be presented to Him [Allah], and if in any case not followed, will bring about the scourges of Allah and all humankind. YUSUFALI: And battle them on until there is no more Tumult or mistreatment, and there win equity and confidence in Allah; yet in the event that they stop, Let there be no threatening vibe but to the individuals who practice persecution. PICKTHAL: And battle them until oppression is no more, and religion is for Allah. However, in the event that they cease, at that point let there be no antagonistic vibe aside from against transgressors. SHAKIR: And battle with them until there is no abuse, and religion ought to be just for Allah, yet on the off chance that they cease, at that point there ought to be no antagonistic vibe aside from against the oppressor (v. 93). While leniency murdering is denounced, jihad is ‘just’ in light of the fact that it is for the reason for Allah and it is a worthy way to demolish the unbelievers. Through the span of history, and all the more so now, jihad is politicized by Islamic people group; Islam government and in some little discrete network s who rehearsed Islamic confidence guaranteed that jihad is only if for the reason for counter and Allah. YUSUFALI: The precluded month for the denied month,- thus for everything restricted,- there is the law of correspondence. On the off chance that, at that point any one violates the disallowance against you, Transgress ye in like manner against him. Yet, dread Allah, and realize that Allah is with the individuals who limit themselves. PICKTHAL: The taboo month for the prohibited month, and illegal things in counter. What's more, one who attacketh you, assault him in like way as he assaulted you. Watch your obligation to Allah, and realize that Allah is with the individuals who avert (insidious). SHAKIR: The Sacred month for the hallowed month and every consecrated thing are (under the law of) counter; whoever at that point demonstrations forcefully against you, exact injury on him as per the injury he has dispensed on you and be cautious (about your obligation) to Allah and realize that Allah is with the individuals who guard (against evil)(v. 194). Jihad at that point is a protective component for the Moslem people group. Taking a gander at it along these lines, annihilation is reasonable given that the casualties are Christians or Islam non-adherents. Is most overwhelming that such guideline/idea annihilates conciliatory global relations among Moslems and Christians. Such good guideline lay clash to the as of late impelled global law forbidding fighting after the World War II. While the facts confirm that strict laws establish framework to our essential good standards and morals, it must be recalled that our more noteworthy commitment is to deliver useful for the more prominent humanity. An assessment on some Qu’ran laws show the significance of reexamining or redressing the establishments of Moslem good morals dependent on a few social and widespread good contemplations.

The Conquest Of Cool Common Perception Of The...

The Conquest of Cool examines the common perception of the Sixties counterculture. It questions the idea that the revolution and rebellion of the subculture of the 1960s in America against the consumer driven culture of the 1950s were actually a consumer driven rebellion in and of itself. The book s primary message is to describe how Advertisers and other big business in corporate America such as soda pop bottlers and clothing companies welcomed the counterculture and perhaps were responsible for creating it. Consumer driven industry realized that instant gratification would make this new generation better consumers than their frugal post world war 2 parents. The book hints that the art and creative self-expression of the counterculture in 1960s America was reflected in, and driven by the advertising of the time, suggesting that life imitates art or that advertising imitates the culture. However, the author also suggests that advertisers anticipated the revolution and in part precipi tated the counterculture, creating the culture that it marketed freedom to. We see that the 1950s advertising was characterized by an entity known as, Organization Man.† A fabricated mold that would fit easily in the capitalist machine. During the 1950s ad agencies and advertising companies marketed a lifestyle to fit this most common mold. They tailor-made advertisements to the desires of the subculture as well as corporations. Essay about Explanation for Criminality from a...

Explanation for Criminality from a Sociological Perspective From a sociological perspective, explanation for criminality is found in two levels which are the subculture and the structural explanations. The sociological explanations emphasize aspects of societal arrangements that are external to the actor and compelling. A sociological explanation is concerned with how the structure of a society, institutional practices or its persisting cultural themes affect the conduct of its members. Individual differences are denied or ignored, and the explanation of the overall collective behavior is sought in the patterning of social arrangements that is considered to be both outside the actor and prior to him (Sampson, 1985). That is, the†¦show more content†¦It is in this change and variety that crime is defined. An application of this principle to criminology would find the roots of the crime in the fact that groups have developed different standards of appropriate behavior. In those complex cultures, each individual is subject to competing prescriptions for action. Another subcultural explanation of crime grows readily out of the fact that as we have seen, social classes experience different rates of arrest and conviction for serious offenses. When within a society categories are marked off by income, education and occupational prestige. Here differences are discovered among them in the amount an style of the crime. Further, differences are usually found between these social classes in their interests and morals. Its easy to describe these class-linked patterns as a culture. This version of the subcultural explanation of crime holds that the very fact of learning the lessons of the subculture means that one acquires interests and preferences that place him in greater or lesser risk of breaking the law. Others argue that being reared on the lower-class means learning a different culture from that which creates the criminal laws. The lower class subculture is said to have its own values as many of which run counter to the majority interest that support the laws against the serious predatory crimes. Management of Menopause Symptoms Samples †MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the Management of Menopause Symptoms. Answer: Introduction Menopause is an aeging process and typically occurs in both men and women at approximately 49-52 years of age. Male menopause is the more commonly referred to as andropause. The term is generally used to describe male hormonal changes that are related to increasing age. The condition is also known as late-onset hypogonadism or androgen deficiency. It involves a drop in testosterone production (Cunningham, 2013). On the other hand, the cessation of menstrual periods in females is referred to as menopause. It involves loss of follicles from the ovary (Murphy et al., 2013). This condition can also arise due to surgical removal of ovaries. The follicles present in the ovary lose their capability to respond to the secretion of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). A particular population survey conducted in the United Arab Emirates showed that the 48 years was the mean age for incidence of natural menopause, and it was lower than the mean age observed among people living in the West (Hamid et al., 2014). Another study showed that women living in the UAE reported less severity and fewer symptoms of menopause than women living in the western countries (Hamid et al., 2014).The assignment will illustrate the observable signs and symptoms of menopause, the data from several laboratory studies and the various treatment or interventions used to prevent its occurrence. It will further illustrate the future nursing implications to treat this condition in clinical settings. Therefore, it will help in providing a deeper understanding of the services that need to be employed to treat menopause and promote the holistic wellbeing of the target population. Symptoms Menopause is considered as a natural change. The periods generally become irregular before the incidence of menopause. The most common symptoms are observed in the form of vasomotor symptoms orhot flashes that last from 30 seconds to 10 minutes. The hot flashes are often associated with sweating, shivering,and reddening of skin, and are reported by more than 80% of women experiencing menopause. Other observable symptoms includetrouble in sleeping, sexual difficulties, vaginal dryness, itching, urine leakage, decreased libido, and mood changes (Altaweel Alharbi, 2012). Menopause increases the likelihood of getting affected with atherosclerosis and acute myocardial infarction. Some of the common risk factors that contribute to the condition are hypertension, tobacco smoking, increased body weight and increasedblood lipids. The risk for osteoporosis andosteopenia also rises (Topatan Y?ld?z, 2012). Hormonal fluctuations give rise to several psychological changes like irritability, mood swings, increasing anxiety, poor memory and lack of concentration. The UAE census conducted in 2010 reported that there were 468,888 Emirati women of whom 83,784 were from Dubai. At least 50% of the population was female (222,875). The census reports revealed that life expectancy is 39.4 years at 45 49 years and 34.4 years at 50 54 years (Dsc.gov.ae, 2017). Thus, it can be deduced that women live one-third of their lives beyond the incidence of menopause. Diagnosis People are often advised to undergo the Follicle-stimulating hormone test is by doctors to assess the levels of estrogen and FSH. An increase in FSH levels and decrease in estrogen levels are generally observed. The Greene Climateric Scale is aquestionnairetool used byto study menopausesymptoms. Furthermore, doctors often test for lipid profile, where an abnormal increase in low density lipoproteins (LDL) and decrease in high density lipoproteins (HDL) show an elevated risk of cardiovascular diseases. Performing thyroid function tests exclude the occurrence of thyroid diseases because they share some common symptoms with menopause. Swabs are used to check pH levels of the vagina. This is due to the fact that vaginal pH levels increase to 6 during menopause (Panda et al., 2014). Treatment Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is used as the standard treatment for menopause. This therapy is used to control to the psychological, vasomotor and urogenital irregularities, and osteoporosis. The routes of administration of this therapy are subcutaneous, oral, intravaginal, transdermal and intrauterine. It is most effective in treating hot flashes. However, the risks of blood clots and stroke increase upon its use (Fantasia Sutherland, 2014). The therapy has also proved effective in treating osteoporoticfracture and bone loss. Moreover, there is a concern that this therapy can increase incidence of ovarian cancer, breast cancer and cardiovascular disease among postmenopausal women. The symptoms associated with menopause are also treated by acupuncture. Results from a randomized controlled pilot study also showed that Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture were successful in reducing hot flushes and improving quality of life among postmenopausal women (Nedeljkovic et al., 2014). Recent studies provide evidence for the use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors to treat menopause symptoms. A systemic review conducted in Saudi Arabia reported improvements in vasomotor symptoms and severity of hot flashes with the use of SSRI such as, fluoxetine and venlafaxine (Shams et al., 2014). Some of the commonly used GABA analogs to treat hot flashes are pregabalin and gabapentin (Imai et al., 2013). The effects of yoga on menopausal symptoms were demonstrated by a randomized controlled trial that showed improvement of menopause related insomnia symptoms among women who practiced yoga for 12 weeks (Newton et al., 2014). Prevention and lifestyle modifications- Natural menopause cannot be prevented. However, certain lifestyle changes can be adopted that can delay onset of early menopause. Factors such as, high intake of dietary fat, smoking, high cholesterol, and caffeine consumption accelerate the onset of the physiological phenomenon. Hence, there should be a reduction in alcohol and cigarette consumption and women should consume food rich in calcium and vitamin D to avoid occurrence of menopause related osteoporosis. Balanced diet, regular exercise and maintenance of body weight will also help to prevent the incidence of cardiovascular disorders (Gold et al., 2013). A reduction in alcohol consumption also helps to reduce hot flashes and disturbances in sleep patterns. Nursing assistance Nurses, working in menopause clinics play a vital role in informing women about menopause symptoms and its management.. Nurses are responsible for assisting women to understand the potential health implications of menopause management. They formulate and lead several specialist menopause services and works towards ensuring that the services produce good patient outcomes (Sewerynek et al., 2013). It is of utmost importance to allow the patients to express their attitude and feelings about menopause. Nurses are involved in taking consultations that include psychological, physical and historical assessments. Referrals and counselling are taken by them to advise patients on complementary therapies and lifestyle modifications that will optimize long-term health outcomes. Their role requires them to encourage patients to exercise for 30 minutes, thrice a week. They also assist the patients to maintain a healthy diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits and whole grains. Patients are advised to consume food that is low in fatty acid content. Conclusion In conclusion, it can be stated that menopause is a physiological event that occurs among all aging population. However its symptoms and degree of impact on the quality of life vary among individuals. There are several environmental and lifestyle factors that can affect that age of onset of menopause. Most common symptoms are observed in the form of physical and psychological changes. Hot flashes are most commonly seen. One of the widely prevalent management techniques is hormone replacement therapy, in addition to use of SSRI. Future recommendations These include conduction of educational sessions that provides adequate information on the age of onset, symptoms, risk factors, management and lifestyle changes to cope with menopause. Psychological assessments will help in considering and addressing individual needs. Group discussion will also provide assistance to people to discuss on their experiences, negative emotions and coping strategies related to menopause. Thus, it can be concluded that nurses play an essential role in screening women for menopause symptoms and teaching them the different management options. References Altaweel, W., Alharbi, M. (2012). Political Culture Essay Example

Political Culture Essay â€Å"Drawing examples from any one Caribbean territory and using public opinion data from sources , to what extent is political culture less dependent on local culture as a result of recent technological developments. † Political culture is the particular set of orientations, beliefs, customs, and preconceptions which are shared by members of the society, which give meaning to their political process, and which provide the underlying assumptions that govern their political behaviour and public policies (Lawrence 6). On the other hand we have local culture, which Karen Lawrence describes as the history, family, politics, landscape, art, music and values and people melded into a sense of place that feels vibrant and cohesive and firmly rooted. Local culture is where and how one is connected to life and each other; it is the collective memory of a community. What is technology might one ask? Technology is the use of tools or instruments for any human activity. These human activities can be production, storage, exchange, transportation or even consumption. It is the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life society and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial engineering,  applied  science,  and  pure science. Politics is an area which manifests may aspects of our culture and in these modern times, political culture in the Caribbean territory of Jamaica has become dependent on recent technological developments. This process has effects on the environment, on culture, on political systems, on economic development and prosperity, as well as human physical well-being in societies around the world. Due to globalization, money, goods and manufacturing have become more mobile than they once were, and as a result corporations and businesses are allowed to finance, invest and move wherever they choose, they have a wider access to other countries across the world. There is a shift in the balance of power between international businesses and governments. National governments are less able to control the activities of mobile businesses than in the past, while corporations and financial institutions are in a better position to dictate to national governments. They do this by, purchasing the currencies of states whose policies they approve and abandoning, or threatening to abandon the rest. In 2003, Jamaica’s debt stood at $4. 4billion owing to the IMF, the debt required that 52 cents of every dollar earned goes for interest payments. By this time Jamaica had already paid back 17 times the amount of money originally borrowed. Farming and industry have been in crisis. There was a very high unemployment rate and there has been migration from the rural areas to Kingston, people in search of jobs and opportunities. There was an increase in crime and drug trade, which in turn have led to frequent police killings. Political violence and rioting has been seen in recent years. Responsible in part for this unrest and turmoil is globalization, ensnaring the country in enormous debt arranged by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, and other international lending agencies at high interest rates. â€Å"The structural adjustments that were imposed by the IMF had cause for an increase in interest rates to industry and farmers, so that they could no longer compete with the flood of subsidized or â€Å"dumped† foreign imports. These policies have driven down wages and forced the government to cut back funding for education, healthcare, and agricultural programs which benefit the poor (Harper 2003). † Again due to globalization there was civil unrest and mayhem in Jamaica. In 2009 there was an extradition request from the USA for Christopher â€Å"Dudus† Coke, a drug kingpin who enjoyed demigod status in the west Kingston stronghold of Tivoli Gardens. The United States wanted him for drug trafficking and gun trade. The then ruling party, the Jamaica Labour Party did not want to give up Mr. Coke, as he had close ties with the party. This included a construction company called Incomparable Enterprises, where Dudus was a partner, was awarded three government contracts by the JLP valued at $US 400 thousand, also a contract worth US $150,000 to transport materials to Riverton City landfill. Also the JLP was also responsible for campaigning and establishment of the â€Å"garrison† known as Tivoli. The USA said that they would cut all ties with Jamaica if Mr. Coke was not extradited. Jamaica depended on the US for money and imported products. Jamaica could not afford to lose America’s support, as so in turn, Dudus was extradited. This is a clear example of the influence of globalization. According to Alec Ross, one of the creators of technology policy for Barack Obamas 2008 presidential campaign, â€Å"We are well beyond being able to consider social media a fad. If you are not open to social media spaces then you are not attuned to the dynamics on the street and you sacrifice both understanding and power. The emergence of Social Media has caused for the political culture in Jamaica to be less dependent on local culture, due to this recent technological advancement. In 2007 statistics showed that 539. 543 per 1,000 people  in Jamaica used the internet, in 2005 3,042,000 people in Jamaica were telephone subscribers. Also in 2007 there were 2,700,000 mobile phone subscribers and 444. 079 per 1,000 people in Jamaica who had radios. In 2002, 70. 04% of households in Jamaica had televisions. These numbers are rising every year, with social media becoming more popular as the years go by. In Jamaica there are 7 local television channels; the two main local channels being CVM and TVJ (Gordon 89). These channels no longer focus on what is going on locally in the country or show many locally produced shows. The time slots for these stations are filled with American based television shows, cartoon and movies. The local news also doesn’t focus on what is happening in the country each day, but only gives us a brief overview and then skips to â€Å"international news† updating the public on what is happening in places such as USA, Canada, Asia and South America just to name a few. It is speculated that in Jamaica, the people know more about what is going on in America than they do about what is happening in their â€Å"own backyard. † In Jamaica during election time, the political parties use the media as a way to voice their opinions of the other parties and also articles and pictures are published in order to persuade voters to vote for a particular party or to persuade the public to vote in general. The media also helps with political socialization, this is the process by which people form their ideas about   politics and acquire political values, the two main political arties in Jamaica being the Jamaica Labour Party and the People’s National Party. Social media currently plays a huge part in the political culture of Jamaica. Jamaica tries to emulate the political culture of the United States of America that is using social media forums which include facebook and twitter as a way to promote political parties instead of sticking the usual me ans of newspapers and new channels. As technology develops, politics has to develop along with it. An example of this is seen by the creation of a facebook page called â€Å"Young Jamaica† which is an affiliate of the Jamaica Labour Party. The purpose of the page is to inform Jamaica’s youth about the JLP and to promote this party over the PNP. It encourages young Jamaicans to get enumerated and it also highlights the failures of the PNP and its members. Another example of social media forum is the seen by the creation of a facebook page called â€Å"Blame Bruce† which is an affiliate of the People’s National Party blaming past Prime Minister Bruce Golding for problems in Jamaica. There was also a â€Å"hashtag† on twitter called â€Å"Blame Bruce†. The Jamaican political culture is less dependent on the local culture. The most recent instance of the local culture being brought into politics was due to the Jamaica 50th celebration on August 6th 2012, Jamaica was an independent nation for 50 years. Due to technological developments, the political culture of Jamaica is less dependent on local culture. Globalization and Social media have had a huge effect on the political culture, as these seem to have more of an influence than the local culture.

Procrastination and Action Essay Example for Free

Procrastination and Action Essay Procrastination, like all of your behaviors carries consequences. Whether your behavior is conscious or unconscious, you will eventually have to deal with the effects. Its only natural to procrastinate at times but, the way you deal with your procrastination patterns will determine what effects procrastination has on your life. One of the most obvious effects of procrastination is the failure to reap the rewards that would come from taking action. If a student chooses to procrastinate rather than complete school work on time, there can be many terrible effects. Of course, his or her grades could suffer if that particular school or teacher penalizes for late work. Severe procrastination can end in failure if the work is not accepted because of lateness. Even in the best-case scenario, work completed under the stress of procrastination tends to be poorly done. Procrastination can also negatively affect a person’s home life. Imagine you procrastinated and left the dirty dishes in the sink after dinner tonight. That would not be such a big deal, right? Now imagine you did it for a week. Imagine the putrid stench, the mold, and the hours of scrubbing it would take to get rid of the dried food. Procrastination is bad, but procrastination over a long stretch of time is horrific. You might even give yourself food poisoning! Overindulging in procrastination at work will inevitably get you fired. If your boss asks you to do something now and you do not complete it until next week, do you think you will keep your job? Even if you do not lose your job, you will likely receive a bad evaluation and perhaps face a pay cut if you are not completing tasks in a timely manner. If you are fired and you have a history of bad evaluations, you will not likely receive a letter of recommendation from your old job. Without a good work history, it will be difficult or impossible to get another job. When you procrastinate you simple fail to take action on the very things you know will bring you the rewards that you desire. Although you know what you want and even what you need to do to get it, you still have to take action and its usually at this point where procrastination sets in. Because the results that you desire are often something bigger and better than what you currently have, you must step outside your comfort zone to get it. You might have to take actions that you are not comfortable with to which your unconscious mind reacts by protecting you against that which is uncomfortable. Although the short term effects of procrastination might seem as positive the long term effects are almost always negative. Failing to reap the rewards of taking action can have many knock on effects. Taking action on your ideas and desires is one of your most empowering gifts. It is the process by which you can make the intangible tangible. Through your actions and your behavior you create or manage your life. Its not only the direct results of your actions that create the outcomes, but often the very fact that you are actually consciously affecting the conditions of your life. It not just your actions, but rather your failure to take action that will have a greater effect on the rewards you reap from life. From this point of view the effects of procrastination is not just a direct but also an indirect loss of rewards. Every action is a cause set in motion that affects and builds on past and future events to the point, where we can never really determine the actual effect of one specific action. More than anything else, action opens you up to opportunity. Opportunity is rarely the result of you waiting for it. When you put yourself in line with what you want most through your conscious action you expose yourself to opportunity. Its never a case of whether you have opportunities but rather are you noticing the opportunities? But even more importantly, are you using the opportunities or are you procrastinating? One thing is for certain and that is when procrastination becomes a habit you wont even notice all the opportunities on your doorstep. You will live your life in distraction, constantly looking for short term pleasures to avoid the real challenges that will cause you to reap the real results. You will always turn a blind eye to the real opportunities. Those who succeed are rarely the people with the most or the most splendid opportunities. They are the people who saw and realized it. Out of all the negative effects of procrastination and indecision the failure to spot and act on opportunity is probably the saddest. So many people with so much talent fail to live up to their true potential because of procrastination. The rewards you reap from life will be either a direct or an indirect result of your actions or your inactions. Not only will procrastination prevent you from reaping the rewards but your inaction will prevent you from even being exposed to opportunity. Opportunity is knocking but you have to take action and at least open the door. There might be many reasons why a person chooses to procrastinate when he or she knows it is time to complete a task. Whatever the causes, the effects of procrastination can be catastrophic. Procrastination can be harmful at school, home, and work. If a student chooses to procrastinate rather than complete school work on time, there can be many terrible effects. Of course, his or her grades could suffer if the teacher penalizes, work that is sent in late. Not only will procrastination prevent you from reaping the rewards but your inaction will prevent you from even being exposed to opportunities. Procrastination, like all of your behaviors carries consequences. Whether your behavior is conscious or unconscious, you will eventually have to deal with the effects. The effects of procrastination are something that we all have to confront and deal with from time to time. Procrastination is what derives people from their work, study, and even determination. Focus is what is needed in our every-day lives, and though it is tempting to delay what is needed to be done, no excuse is worth it.

Famous People :: essays papers

Famous People In 1999 Ricky Martin’s debut album hit number one on the Billboard Top 100 charts and also surpassed his other CD sales by selling almost 661,000 copies of his first English language album. That same year two major publishers printed biographies on him. (Griffiths, john 1of 5) Since his Grammy debut in 1999 he seems to have found success in every aspect of his career except in his personal life. Even with all the success he has reaped he unfortunately still suffers from the inability to keep a lasting partner in his life. This problem is seen through interpreting his music, where he expresses his loneliness and feelings about losing love. His loneliness has occurred from putting his career in front of his personal life due to his earliest obsession with having the full attention of his both his separated parents. His need for attention did not start at the beginning of the divorce though, in contrary he received even more attention then normal because both his parents wanted to see him be as happy as possible. With his parents not communicating to each other regularly he was able to get things from one parent that the other previously disapproved of. (Furman 5-7) One of the things he convinced his parents to let him do was acting. While watching other actors on TV he wished that he would one day do the same. He decided at the age of five that he wanted to entertain and his father supported him all the way. For his Father, seeing him perform in school plays and sing in his church choir only proved that letting his son act was the most reasonable thing to do. (Celebrating Hispanic Culture 1 of 4) â€Å"For Ricky being on-stage was synonymous with being loved. It was like having an even bigger family to adore and admire his every move and gesture.†(Furman 7) But soon Ricky’s new and improved â€Å"bigger† family would become a littler bit smaller. A short while after his acting pursuit began both his parents remarried and five new stepbrothers and sisters followed. Since losing most of his parents full attention he dreamt day and night about being a huge star so that, once again, he could just not get the attention of his parents but also of the adoring public all around the world. (Furman 8-9) He didn’t know that the public adoration was just around the corner though.

Lack of Diversity in Management & Coaching in Sports

In recent history it has been evident that some of the most popularize sports in America have been dominated and overran by African American and other minority athletes. In turn when the coaching and management positions in sports are analyzed and broken down, the number of minority coaches and managers in sport are almost non-existent and have been since those sports organization became established. In 2006 Blacks made up about 14% of the population, 12% of all college enrollments, and nearly 24% of all collegiate scholarship athletes.In some major sports, such as basketball and football, blacks make up a great percentage of athletes participating. In 2005 over 55% of all collegiate athletes on football scholarships were Blacks and about 62% of all collegiate athletes on basketball scholarships were Black and this is out of the NCAA’s 328 Division I schools. Despite the large number of Black representing the athletes in collegiate sport, the percentage of African Americans in coaching and administrative position were very small.In 2005 roughly 7% of all head coaches of men’s teams at the nation’s largest universities were black and only 6. 5% in women’s collegiate sports. The numbers are even smaller in the big-time revenue generating sports such as basketball and football. Just to give a breakdown of these percentages, there were only 3 head football coaches at the NCAA’s 119 D I-A schools. What tends to help the racial lines seen been athletes on the field/court of play and the people who are in the position of power.One thing that helps alleviate this barrier is the number of minority assistant coaches in position. The percentage of minority assistant coaches in collegiate sports are far greater that of head coaches in power. It seems that it’s expected to for a white man to be in power and for blacks and other minorities to be in assistant roles that it’s become normal in sports and unquestioned. The authori ty of white head coaches is often legitimized through the eyes of black athletes when its seen that black assistant are taking orders from a white coach.This is an issue that has become to be expected in both collegiate and professional sports (Anonymous, 36-37). It may not be thought about much but there are some racial games that are played. Although the Rooney Rule has at least given minority head coaches a chance to potentially get hired because they actually get a chance to get an interview, many still see it as just a rule put into place to make it seem like everything is equal and to save face from scrutiny about racial issues in sport. In 2003, Mike Millen the president of the Detroit Lions was fined for not interviewing a minority.He was not fined for intentionally not interviewing minority coaches, he actually contacted five different minority coaches and each of them turned the request for an interview down. Each of them felt like the job was already Steve Mariucci and fe lt like they were just being interviewed just so that the Detroit Lions could fill their obligation to interview a minority coach. The problem not only lies with collegiate and professional sports organizations and the issue of not interviewing and hiring more minority coaches and managers but also stems from this minorities feeling that they don’t have a fair shot at the position.Some minorities looking for a head coaching position also have negative feelings towards getting called up for an interview just because of rule that was put into place that forces teams to do this. Some feel like if the Rooney Rule wasn’t in place that general managers wouldn’t go out of there to try and search for minority coaches to interview like that have to do now. A subconscious bias is happening within these organizations because the managers are taking the notion that we’re giving â€Å"them† a â€Å"fair† chance at the position because we are given them a n interview just like everyone else.In reality its being done to help shift focus away from the lack of diversity and make it seem that things are much better in that department and that organizations are treating the issue with an open mind (Nordlinger, J. , 25-26). On the issue of the lack of minority representation in the administration side of sport lacks even more than minority coaches. The hiring of administrators of color has been extremely limited and still continues to be today. In 1999 NCAA reported a combined percentage of minority administrators in position is a mere 10%, which includes all areas of the administrator sector in NCAA D-I sports.This statistic includes both women and men which shows that representation of minorities have been scarce both on and off the field in NCAA D-I sports. The biggest concern with the lack of minorities in top leadership positions in collegiate sports starts with top-level managers themselves such as college presidents, athletic direct ors, and conference commissioners not aggressively pursuing minorities for leadership roles. This not happening will continue to bring up the same issues about underrepresentation in sport period.Putting more minorities in position will lead to more and more minorities potentially getting opportunities for interviews through the passing of knowledge from other minorities alike. The NCAA is taking steps to trying to bridge the gap by planning to open a Minority Institute to develop minorities and give them the necessary skills needed to compete with their white counterparts (Greenlee, 1). I feel that both professional and collegiate sports can do a little more than what is being done to bring more diversity to its organizations and teams within its governing body.The Rooney Rule is a start for sports as a whole period to bring in more minorities, although the rule is only geared toward the NFL it kind of opens the eyes of other leagues to potentially implement a rule or some differen t policies that give minorities an equal shot of obtaining the same position as whites. I believe that clinics or some programs should be set up to help minority coaches and minorities looking to get into the administration side of sport, gain knowledge and skills to help make them more successful as leaders.In turn this could make organization better as a whole because different ideas and not just the same mindset of how things should and could be done within the organization. General Managers and other administrators would get a chance to better interact with a person of minority working within an organization and would be able to gain knowledge from them as well. Depending on how well the minority coach or administrator does and the type of knowledge the person possesses could really open of the eyes of his/her white colleagues and help others get their foot in the door.Ever since minorities have gotten a chance to take on roles such as head coaching positions and in different ma nagement position they have been seen as unsuccessful. I believe that this is because they have had limited opportunities and have not always come into the best of situations with teams that have hired them. Ultimately whites are seen as most successful because they are the majority they have more people in position that are and have succeeded but also more that have ailed. Their successes have been highlighted over their failures and it seems like minority coaches and minorities in top-level management positions failures have been highlighted over their successes. Although the number of minorities hired for coaching and management positions are very limited they will have to be successful in order for them to be legitimatized and given fair shots at getting major positions within sport organizations and leagues.Until minorities represent a percentage that is seen as acceptable in relation the country’s population in America is then where the issue of the lack of diversity in major level positions in sport die out.Works Cited Anonymous, .
